Overland Park, Kansas (Feb. 14, 2025) — Fresh off its recent rebranding announcement, local accounting and financial advisory firm MarksNelson, a Springline company, just bolstered its leadership team with the promotion of a new partner, Tim York.
York has been with the firm since 2016 in the Tax Department, serving as a senior accountant, supervisor and, most recently, manager, and will now serve as a partner, providing tax services, financial models and consulting services to clients in the real estate industry. He specializes in helping owners and developers successfully complete their commercial and residential real estate projects using tax credits, including affordable housing (LIHTC), historic, new market and brownfield energy.
“I feel so grateful to join a talented partnership group and to reach this ultimate goal I’ve had since joining the firm,” he said. “It’s so rewarding to help developers transform and save our historic buildings through the use of these tax credits, and it feels amazing to take on more of a leadership role in what I already do on a daily basis with my clients.”
Originally earning a management science degree from the University of California San Diego, York later went back to school for accounting, earning his CPA in 2016.
A member of both the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, he calls his latest promotion the “pinnacle of public accounting” and appreciates the culture that has formed at MarksNelson.
“MarksNelson really feels like a family,” he said. “It has that ‘small firm’ feel that I appreciate because they put their people first. My job is so fulfilling, and I’m lucky to be able to do it here.”
Josh Beck, Managing Partner at MarksNelson Advisory, said York has been a valuable asset for the firm, especially as they’ve grown their project work around historic tax credits.
“Tim has a real passion for these projects and does an amazing job working with developers to save so many of our region’s historic structures,” he said. “His dedication to the success of his clients and team makes him a perfect choice as our next partner.”
