Doing the right thing drives us to action. Throughout the year MarksNelson employees donate their time, experience, and financial support to make a positive impact throughout Kansas City and beyond. By championing the causes we’re passionate about, we strive to make a difference.  

Wrapped in Warmth

We provide hats, scarves, gloves, and blankets to people who need them during the cold winter months through our Wrapped in Warmth program. While many organizations collect coats, we realized no one was addressing the need for other items. So in 2016 we invited employees to decorate our lobby Christmas tree with warm and cozy accessories for people experiencing homelessness. MarksNelson’s employees didn’t disappoint. In fact, our team donated so many items the tree couldn’t hold them all.

Then our employees had an even better idea to move the program forward: hand-crafting items to show how much we care. Now every year, more than a dozen employees come together to knit, cut, and sew handmade cold-weather accessories. We work together—sharing techniques, patterns, and tips for hand-knit and fleece garments and blankets. 

With every stitch and snip, we hope the recipients feel how much we value them. We are proud to make a difference in our community. 

Volunteer Day

Once a year our professionals set aside their tech tools and spreadsheets, roll up their sleeves, and go to work as part of our annual Volunteer Day. We get our hands dirty, doing real work that benefits local Kansas City nonprofits. We give back to organizations that impact our community the most. Our efforts build stronger relationships with local charities and also with each other.

Wrapped in Warmth and Volunteer Day are part of MarksNelson’s ongoing Marks of Kindness program, which formalizes the firm’s community outreach. What really sets our award-winning Marks of Kindness program apart is that it’s not just about fundraising. It’s about finding innovative ways for our employees to get involved and personally do something that makes an impact.
