MarksNelson Named a ‘Great Place to Work’ by National Organization

November 4, 2024

Local accounting and financial advisory firm MarksNelson Advisory has once again been recognized for its stellar workplace culture. For the second year in a row, the firm has been certified by Great Place to Work, the global authority on workplace culture.

The certification evaluated the MarksNelson culture from the employee perspective to best evaluate the internal health of the firm. Through a company-wide employee Trust Index Survey and the Culture Brief company questionnaire, the process measures the level of trust in the organization and the consistency of employee experience.

The results of the MarksNelson survey showed that 96% of team members say the firm is a great place to work, compared to just 57% at a typical U.S.-based company. Team members also rated MarksNelson on several criteria (on a 100-point scale), including:

  • Fairness: 98

  • Respect: 97

  • Pride: 98

“This award, unlike many others, is awarded based on employee surveys and acts as a symbol of our commitment to creating a workplace where people feel valued and engaged,” said Managing Partner Josh Beck. “I’m honored to serve as Managing Partner for such a talented and passionate team, dedicated to making everyone feel welcome, know they are valued, and appreciate that their work truly matters—because it does.”

MarksNelson was rated relative to other companies of the same size across all industries, not only firms in the accounting field. Each team member answered 14 demographic questions and responded to 60 statements across a five-point consistency scale, along with two open-ended questions. The responses gathered their opinion on clear and honest leadership, fair treatment, recognition, pride and a sense of belonging.

Based in Oakland, California, the Great Place to Work organization has surveyed more than 100 million employees around the world since 1992. The group reports that certified companies on average experience half the turnover rates of a typical workplace, and a 2023 study found that candidates were 15 times more likely to favor an employer that had been certified as a Great Place to Work by its own team members.

The MarksNelson certification as a Great Place to Work follows the firm’s August 2024 recognition by Accounting Today, a leading provider of business news for the accounting community, which named the firm to its list of the 2024 Best Accounting Firms to Work For
